Birthday celebrations . . .

This year Grant decided that he wanted a "friend" birthday party. In the past when we have offered to have a party with friends for Grant, he has declined, preferring instead to do something special with the family. This year Grant planned for months for his the party he wanted to have with friends. After thinking through various themes and locations for his party, Grant decided that he would like to have a Spongebob themed pool party at the North Kansas City Community Center. He invited several friends from his kindergarten class,a few family friends, and his cousins Kyla and Casey, too. After much planning and practicing party hosting skills, the party went great! Grant had a lot of fun with his friends and was a gracious host. He is already planning for his next party!
The kids played in the pool for the first hour of the party. This is Grant and his "best friend". He says he is going to marry her when he grows up. He's got good taste as she is a very sweet girl!
. . . and then cake.

. . . plenty of cake.

. . . and then presents.

Travis had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to South Dakota this summer and was gone on Grant's actual birthday. The kids and I spent the day with Grandma Owens and had a fun day of special activities.

First, Grant got to make donuts with Grandma.

Then it was lunch at Fusion Pizza followed by frozen custard at Sheridan's.

And of course a few more presents. Legos were a big hit this year. As was anything Spongebob--notice the shirt from Grandma.
