Preach it, Brother . . .

I'll admit that we haven't always been great about teaching our kids to pray before meals. Too many years of eating in the Jewell cafeteria gave us a habit of too many distractions before meals. Sophia has gotten us on track though. At her school they pray before meals and snack, and they've taught her well where we didn't. In fact, Sophia has become quite the prayer police, making sure to scold anyone who eats before prayer.

Grant has picked up on Sophia's enthusiasm for prayer. Where Sophia prefers to stick to prayer songs or memorized prayers, Grant prefers the more spontaneous prayers. He often adapts scripted prayers to suit his own mood. Grant also likes to add "verses" to his prayers. He says something and then adds a made up scripture address to it.

Here are some of Grant's recent, more creative prayers. I have to say while at first they made me laugh, there is more than a little innocent wisdom in them.

1. God made us great.

God made us good.

God made us thankful for our food.

2. God made us great.

God made us good.

God made our food.

God made us allergic.

(In our house there tends to be a lot of conversation about food that isn't ok for Grant to eat because of his reactions to artificials.)

3.Dear God,

Thank you for this great day we had.

Thank you for our food.

Thank you for making Gilbert and Calliou go away.

2 John 29:18

Amen.
