All good things must come to an end . . . and so summer is winding down for the Ferguson Family. I start back to work this week and Travis starts back next week. We decided to take one last family field trip, this time to the KC Zoo. So the Kansas City Zoo definitely isn't the best zoo in the world, but be had fun. It seems there is a lot to be said for getting to the zoo early enough to be among its first guests of the day. We were treated to an almost private viewing of the Sea Lion show. (I was probably more impressed than the kids.)
For those of you who have not been to the KC Zoo, I'll tell you that one of the downfalls of this particular zoo is that you have to walk a long distance to see only a few animals up close. (I will say that it is a pretty walk though.) We decided to treat ourselves to the tram/boat/train pass that allowed us to take unlimited rides from place to place. Not to mention that riding the various vehicles was probably the best part of the day for our kids. The tram driver was a man named Larry who came by and met Grant and Sophia before the ride. During the ride he talked to them by name over the tram's sound system. (Again, I was probably more impressed than the kids.)
While we are sad that summer is ending, we are excited about the start of the school year. Grant is really beginning to crave the routine that the school year brings and he will be glad to see all of his teachers and friends at his school. We are all very excited for the return of our college aged friends. The fall semester is always a fun time at WJC. It is likely that this will be our last year at Jewell (although we have said that before), so we intend to make this year extra special.
